Director Martin Scorcese’s fifth feature, TAXI DRIVER, premiered in New York in 1976, and, though controversial, was a critical and commercial success. Inspired in part by Dostoyevsky’s “Notes from Underground”, the film’s screenplay is by Paul Schrader and stars Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, Cybill Shepherd and Jodie Foster, among others.
The story follows taxi driver Travis Bickle, a Vietnam veteran, as he navigates New York City’s nightscape while his mental state deteriorates. “Taxi Driver” received four Academy Award nominations and received the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
